The International Centre for Islam and Pluralism (ICIP) was established in Jakarta in July 2003, after one year of preparation and dialogue. Participants in the dialogue process included intellectuals and specialists on Islam and pluralism, from Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Thailand and the Philippines.
The principal goal of ICIP is to build a network of Islamic Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and progressive-moderate Muslim activists and intellectuals, in South-East Asia, and eventually around the globe. ICIP's soft launching took place on 11-11-2003 in Jakarta, Indonesia. |

Fact finding team reports human rights problem in Mesuji |

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Mon, 01/02/2012 10:28 PM The Mesuji killing case joint fact finding team reported on Monday that it had found indications of human rights problems in Register 45 and Sri Tanjung village in Lampung and Sodong village in South Sumatera. “We will make sure that human rights issues related to legal assistance, health, education and citizenship will be resolved,” fact finding team chief Denny Indrayana said in a press conference on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com. He said that, prior to the press conference the team had attended a meeting with Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Djoko Suyanto, Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan and National Police Chief Gen. SBY asks citizens to avoid religious-based violence |
The Jakarta Post | Sun, 12/04/2011 10:01 PM President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked the Indonesian people not to use violence in dealing with religious differences. “We should not use force, let alone violence towards those who are different from us,” Yudhoyono said in his speech during the 150th anniversary of Huria Kristen Batak Protestant (HKBP) church at the Bung Karno stadium on Sunday. He said that every religion taught noble values and kindness, which had become the basis of developing the nation’s character, Antara news wire reported. He said Indonesia’s religious diversity and culture should not be the cause of disharmony and disunity. “The diversity of our nation is a wealth that we should be grateful for,” said Yudhoyono.
